Departmental Funding

Summary

The Minister said no universal NGO definition exists, but provided 2025 funding data for registered charities, a broadly similar category.

4154. Deputy Peadar Tóibín asked the Minister for Health the 100 non-governmental organisations that received the highest levels of public funding in the most recent year for which figures are available; the amount received by each organisation; and the Department, agency or public body from which the funding originated. Comment on this

There is no universally accepted definition of what constitutes an NGO and so my Department does not hold information on the NGO status, or otherwise, of bodies in receipt of funding.

However, my Department does collect data on funding supplied to registered charities which is a broadly similar category. The table below shows the payments made to these bodies in 2025.
