Under the Erasmus+ programme, funding is allocated to Higher Education Institutions that then have discretion to administer these funds in line with programme rules and their own internationalisation priorities.
In practice, the majority of Erasmus+ funding supports mobility within Europe under the core programme. While an international (i.e. “global mobility”) dimension does exist, it is comparatively limited, and institutions must prioritise how best to deploy these funds. As a result, not all destinations or exchanges will necessarily be supported for Erasmus+ funding in a given year.
