The Charities Regulatory Authority was established in 2014 and is the statutory agency responsible for registering and regulating all of Ireland’s charities, with the mandate to promote good governance practice.

While the Regulator is under the aegis of my department, it is fully independent in the performance of its statutory functions.

The funding allocated to the Charities Regulator in 2026, as published in the 2026 Revised Estimates Volume for the Public Service, is €6,643,000. The current allocation is €6,503,000 and the capital allocation is €140,000.

The Regulator is an independent legal entity and is responsible for managing its own corporate affairs in compliance with their statutory obligations, including their expenditure management.
