The Department has not undertaken a specific cost estimate for a scrappage scheme providing a €4,000 grant for all privately owned diesel cars registered before 2009.

In designing the recent ICE2EV Pilot Scrappage Scheme, analysis was undertaken to identify an appropriate vehicle age threshold and scrappage value that would maximise emissions reductions while ensuring value for money.
