The Government is committed to progressing the delivery of 1,000 km of walking and cycling infrastructure over its lifetime. This goal is being enabled by a funding allocation of €360m per annum between the National Active Travel programme being managed by the National Transport Authority and the National and Regional Greenways programme being managed by Transport Infrastructure Ireland. Nearly 300 km of Greenway infrastructure was delivered between 2021 and 2025 and there is an ambitious programme containing proposed greenway schemes across the country. My officials have advised that data in relation to the usage of greenways can be viewed at https://uk.planengage.com/tii/page/Power-BI.

This dashboard contains data from a research project known as Project Move. This is a programme of intercept surveys and counts which are completed on a quarterly basis on several greenway routes. Information is available relating to the profile and preferences of greenway users in Ireland as well as the frequency and number of journeys being undertaken on our greenway routes. This initiative ensures that we can now ensure that we can track the number of walking and cycling journeys on a regular basis allowing for longitudinal comparisons over time.
