Foreign Direct Investment is a key element of Ireland's economic strategy, with investments by IDA Ireland client companies consistently generating highly skilled jobs nationwide. Employment and economic impact of IDA clients on Irish economy and society remains at record levels. IDA client employment increased by 1.5% to 312,400 in 2025, which holds share of total national employment in IDA client companies at 11%.   Additionally, my Department estimates that for every ten jobs generated by FDI directly, another eight are created in the wider economy.

Clare forms part of IDA Ireland’s Mid-West Region, alongside counties Limerick and Tipperary.  Across the region, 158 IDA client companies employ 28,125 people directly with a further 22,500 people employed indirectly.  Of these companies, 67 are based in Clare, with 6,136 people employed directly and 4,909 indirectly.  The FDI performance in this region has been strong over the past five years with employment among IDA clients increasing by 18%.  The Mid -West region has repeatedly attracted significant investment across all sectors and activities with prominent investment in Technology, Life Sciences, International Financial Services and Engineering & Industrial Technologies.  Counties in the Mid-West also benefit hugely from the direct and indirect employment generated by IDA client companies located in Dublin, Cork, Galway and Waterford.

IDA Ireland continues to collaborate closely with national and local stakeholders to foster the conditions necessary for enterprise, innovation, and job creation in the Mid-West region. I would note that the IDA reports employment numbers at county level only, and in response to the Deputy’s requests, the number of IDA-supported jobs in Clare, in each of the last 5 years is set out in the table below.
