Michael Moynihan Minister of State at the Department of Education and Youth Fianna Fáil

The School Transport Scheme is a significant operation managed by Bus Éireann on behalf of the Department of Education and Youth.

The purpose of my Department's School Transport Scheme is, having regard to available resources, to support the transport to and from school of children who reside remote from their nearest school.

Bus Eireann has advised that they are not eligible for school transport as they are attending their 3rd nearest post primary centre. In the 25/26 school year, this pupil applied on time and partially paid for a ticket, however there was no service from where they reside to this school. Bus Éireann further advise that the family of the pupil mentioned by the Deputy did not apply or pay for school transport for the 26/27 school year.
