Sports Funding

1605. Deputy Malcolm Byrne asked the Minister for Culture, Communications and Sport the reasons for the delay in the provision of funding under the Large Scale Sporting Infrastructure Fund for the development of a facility in County Wexford (details supplied); if he is concerned about the impact of rising construction costs as a result of such delays; the measures his Department is taking to expedite matters to ensure construction commences; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The Large-Scale Sports Infrastructure Fund (LSSIF) was established under the National Sports Policy to provide Exchequer support for larger sports facility projects.

Wexford County Council was awarded €4.9 million under the 2024 round to assist with the development of the East Coast Sport & Activity Hub. As with all capital expenditure, each project must undergo a series of assessments as required by the Infrastructure Guidelines, published by the Department of Public Expenditure, Infrastructure, Public Service Reform and Digitalisation. My Department is awaiting an updated Preliminary Business Case from Wexford County Council to progress the project.
