The operation of the range of facilities referred to in the question by Departments and institutions is a matter for those Departments. I can only answer in respect of institutions under the aegis of my Department or supported by my Department.

In particular, the term "National Cultural Institutions" is used to refer to a number of collecting institutions holding national collections of historical artefacts or artworks, and to two venues providing the necessary capacity and settings for orchestral and other musical events, and for theatre.

These bodies are:

• The Abbey Theatre

• The Chester Beatty Library

• The Crawford Art Gallery

• The Irish Museum of Modern Art

• The National Archives of Ireland

• The National Concert Hall

• The National Gallery of Ireland

• The National Library of Ireland

• The National Museum of Ireland.

Matters relating to the day-to-day management of the individual National Cultural Institutions are dealt with directly by the Institutions themselves; matters relating to the general policy under which they operate and the provision of financial resources, including sanction for staff, are matters for this Department.

The Abbey Theatre receives its annual current expenditure allocation from within the funding provided to the Arts Council. The National Archives is a functional division of my Department and the costs associated with pay in the National Archives is funded from within my Department's overall allocation for pay. I have therefore excluded these two National Cultural Institutions from the table with details of 2026 funding below.

The National Cultural Institutions also in receipt of significant capital investment by my Department to upgrade and redevelop their facilities. This includes major redevelopment projects at the Crawford Art Gallery, The National Archives and the National Concert Hall as part of the National Cultural Institutions (NCI) Investment Programme under the National Development Plan.

My Department also supports a range of smaller institutions with 20206 annual funding as set out in the table below:

A number of these bodies have also received capital funding allocations from my Department. Details of all capital payments made by my Department are published annually on my Department's website at [www.gov.ie/en/department-of-culture-communications-and-sport/publications/creative-arts-grants-and-funding-previous-schemes/#cultural-development-expenditure].

Finally, my Department operates a number of schemes to which a wide range of bodies can seek support, such as the Mobility of Collections Scheme and the Co-operation with Northern Ireland Funding Scheme. Details of allocations under these schemes is also published annually at [www.gov.ie/en/department-of-culture-communications-and-sport/publications/cultural-projects-funding].
