Departmental Expenditure
1670. My Department in its current configuration was established in June 2025. It provides capital funding across the sport, culture, and communications sectors under the National Development Plan (NDP). As my Department provides grant co-funding and capital allocations towards overall project costs, final expenditure figures, total project budgets, and delivery timeframes remain the responsibility of the individual grantee organisations and project delivery partners.
Sports Sector
My Department operates three main sports capital funding streams:
• Community Sport Facilities Fund (CSFF) (formerly the Sports Capital and Equipment Programme): This fund supports local and regional sports facilities and equipment. Grant allocations under the CSFF are subject to specific caps (currently up to €200,000 for local projects and €500,000 for regional projects) and do not provide grant allocations exceeding €1 million. Allocations for all CSFF rounds on a county and annual basis are published at: Community Sport Facilities Fund / Sports Capital and Equipment Fund Allocations www.gov.ie/en/department-of-culture-communications-and-sport/collections/sports-capital-programme-allocations/
• Large Scale Sport Infrastructure Fund (LSSIF): Capital projects of a scale larger than those funded under the CSFF are supported by the LSSIF – these are typically projects with a grant and total value of over €1m. Detailed lists of all allocations under the LSSIF (2018 and 2024 rounds) by county and project are available at: Large Scale Sport Infrastructure Fund (LSSIF) 2018 www.gov.ie/en/department-of-culture-communications-and-sport/services/large-scale-sport-infrastructure-fund-lssif-2018/ and Large Scale Sport Infrastructure Fund (LSSIF) www.gov.ie/en/department-of-culture-communications-and-sport/services/large-scale-sport-infrastructure-fund-lssif-2024/
• Major projects on the Sport Ireland Campus (see under MyProjectIreland tracker below).
Culture and Arts Sector
Major capital investment in excess of €1 million is directed primarily toward National Cultural Institutions and major regional arts infrastructure under the NDP (see under MyProjectIreland below). Smaller operational and equipment capital grants (such as Streams C, D, and E of the Cultural Capital Scheme) fall below the €1 million threshold. Comprehensive listings of cultural capital funding allocations and previous funding schemes are published at Culture: Grants and Funding www.gov.ie/en/department-of-culture-communications-and-sport/publications/culture-grants-and-funding/ and Creative Arts: Grants and Funding - Previous Schemes www.gov.ie/en/department-of-culture-communications-and-sport/publications/creative-arts-grants-and-funding-previous-schemes/
Communications Sector
The primary major capital project in the communications sector is the National Broadband Plan (NBP), representing a major multi-million euro state infrastructure deployment across all 26 counties. Detailed progress and rollout data across every county are updated continuously by National Broadband Ireland (NBI) at County Fibre Progress and Broadband Rollout Updates | NBI nbi.ie/where-are-we-working/ and NBI Information for Public Representatives Ireland | NBI nbi.ie/reps/
Central Tabular Data for Projects Over €1 Million
As grant assistance under departmental schemes is drawn down over multi-year delivery phases by third-party grantees, final annual expenditure figures and total project budgets are maintained in centralized government infrastructure reporting.
