The Capital Assistance Scheme (CAS) provides up to 100% capital funding to Approved Housing Bodies (AHBs) for the delivery of priority needs social housing for older persons, persons or families that are homeless, and persons with a disability. Funding is provided to AHBs via a non-repayable loan from local authorities, subject to AHB compliance with the CAS terms and conditions and mortgage deed contracts signed with the respective local authorities.

CAS funding provided via Mayo County Council in 2024, 2025 and to date in 2026 is detailed in the table.

Notably, CAS is a demand-led scheme, with funding approved and recouped as projects are submitted, progressed and completed by AHBs. To date, more than sufficient funding has been available to support all eligible CAS social housing proposals.

Some €181 million is available for CAS supported delivery nationwide in 2026, an increase of almost €25 million on 2025.
