Further to Parliamentary Question No. 497 of 24 June 2025, the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) revisited the access/egress point between Ross Canal and Lough Leane earlier this year. Maintenance works to remove sediment that had accumulated following winter inundation were undertaken and completed by 20 July 2026, when suitable weather and ground conditions existed to facilitate access to the site.

The sediment removed during the maintenance works undertaken in 2026 was spread within the curtilage of the site and was not left banked at the canal edge.

The NPWS continues to monitor the access/egress point between Ross Canal and Lough Leane as part of its ongoing management of that location.
