The Inter-Agency Protocol for Coordinating Significant Fish Mortality Events was launched in June and establishes a clear, agreed framework for how State agencies will work together when responding to a major fish kill.

The protocol has been activated in response to a number of incidents over the summer and has proved effective in supporting a coordinated, timely and structured inter-agency response.

The protocol is available on Inland Fisheries Ireland's website at: www.fisheriesireland.ie/sites/default/files/2026-06/National%20Protocol%20Report%202026_online%20low%20resolution.pdf.
