I propose to take Questions Nos. 13 and 14 together.
The Department of the Taoiseach maintains a dynamic, agile and responsive workforce aligned to the Department's strategic priorities set out in the Department’s Statement of Strategy: (https://assets.gov.ie/static/documents/807338cd/DoT_Statement_of_Strategy_2025-2028.pdf)
The number of whole time equivalent (WTE) staff in the Department at year end is published each year in the Department's Annual Report: www.gov.ie/en/department-of-the-taoiseach/collections/corporate-reports/#annual-report.
The number of whole time equivalent (WTE) staff in the Department on 31 December 2016 was 190. The number of WTE staff in the Department on 30 June 2026 was 273.6.
Between 2016 and 2026, additional resources were aligned to emerging priorities and Programme for Government commitments including the Shared Island Initiative, Justice, National Security, Climate Action, Housing and Infrastructure, Child Poverty and Wellbeing, Disability and the National Digital and AI Strategy.
The National Economic and Social Development Office (NESDO) is the only body under the aegis of the Department of the Taoiseach. The number of WTE staff in NESDO on 30 June 2016 was 15.7 and the number of WTE staff in NESDO on 30 June 2026 was 16.6.
