Parental Leave
2116. Deputy Naoise Ó Muirí asked the Minister for Social Protection the levels of maternity benefit and maternity leave, paternity benefit and leave, parental benefit and parental leave which will apply during 2027; and if there is any anticipated changes in these due to take place during 2027. The Department for Children, Disability and Equality has legal and policy responsibility for all family leaves, including their duration. My Department has legal and policy responsibility for the corresponding benefits.
Parents who are on leave from work and who meet the PRSI contribution conditions can currently avail of 26 weeks of Maternity Benefit, two weeks of Paternity Benefit, and nine weeks of Parent’s Benefit.
All family leaves are currently paid at the weekly rate of €299.
Any changes to family leave benefits will be considered as part of the budgetary process.
