I propose to take Questions Nos. 2166 and 2174 together.
The Garda Commissioner is responsible for the management and administration of An Garda Síochána under Section 33 of the Policing, Security and Community Safety Act 2024, which includes the distribution and stationing of all Garda personnel, including the allocation of newly attested Gardaí throughout the State.
An Garda Síochána publishes information in relation to the allocation of Gardaí nationally, including a breakdown of Garda divisions and stations nationwide. Historical data on the allocation of Gardaí allocated to the Kildare/Carlow Division from 2006-2025, and probationer Gardaí from 2015-2025, along with the same data for 2026 can be found here:
www.garda.ie/en/information-centre/garda-statistics/human%20resources/.
Newly attested Gardaí are allocated to specially designated training stations which have the required training and development structures and resources in place, including trained Garda tutors and access to a permanently appointed supervisory Sergeant who is thoroughly familiar with their responsibilities under the training programme.
I have been informed by the Garda authorities that in the latest attestation held on 24 July 2026 there were 19 probationer Gardaí allocated to the Kildare/Carlow Division, bringing the total number of probationer Gardaí allocated to the Division so far in 2026 to 41.
As well as increasing the number of Gardaí in our communities, the allocation of newly attested Gardaí from Templemore facilitates serving Garda members to move on transfer to other Divisions across the country and into specialist units.
