Further to my reply to Parliamentary Question No. 2204 of 28 July 2026, I am informed by the Garda authorities that 8,404 Fixed Charge Notices (FCNs) were issued for non-compliant vehicle registration plates from October 2025 to June 2026. The updated figure reflects the fact that FCN data may be subject to change as notices are processed.
A monthly breakdown is set out below:
I am further informed that 7,313 of these FCNs were paid. A monthly breakdown is set out below:
The following table provides a monthly breakdown of the number of these FCNs which resulted in a summons being issued, were sent to court, or where the summons process was initiated:
I am further informed that 11 summonses were created over the same period for possession of an unregistered vehicle. This offence does not proceed by way of Fixed Charge Notice.
The figures relate to incidents which occurred between 1 October 2025 and 30 June 2026, inclusive. They are based on operational data from the FCPS and PULSE systems as at 21 August 2026 and are liable to change. Figures for FCNs also include those which were subsequently terminated, statute barred or remain within the active interval for payment.
Regarding numbers of convictions, data of this type is recorded by the Courts Service. The management of the courts, operational matters and logistical functions are the responsibility of the judiciary and Courts Service, which are independent in exercising their functions.
As Minister for Justice, Home Affairs and Migration I have no role in these matters.
The Courts Service also has a dedicated email address for the provision of information to members of the Houses of the Oireachtas at: oireachtasenquiries@courts.ie.
