2256. Deputy Malcolm Byrne asked the Minister for Justice, Home Affairs and Migration the total amounts paid by his Department to private insurance companies for insurance for each year from 2016 to 2025 and to date in 2026; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [61355/26]

The Department’s activities are indemnified under the General Indemnity Scheme (GIS) in respect of any claims for personal injury and/or third-party property damage.

This is essentially a form of State 'self-insurance' rather than policy-based insurance. This negates the need for the Department to purchase personal injury or third-party property cover.
