A non-EEA parent of an Irish citizen child may be eligible for permission to remain in the State. To apply for this permission, the child must hold an Irish passport and the applicant must provide evidence that they are the child's biological parent and are substantially involved in the child's care.

More information is available on the ISD website at: www.irishimmigration.ie/my-situation-has-changed-since-i-arrived-in-ireland/the-parent-of-an-irish-citizen-child/.

In circumstances where a non-EEA parent of an Irish citizen child holds a valid permission to reside in the State, or has recently entered the State on a valid Join Family visa, they may make an appointment to attend my Department's Registration Office with their child to register their permission.

If an applicant has a current permission, they may renew it online as the Parent of an Irish Citizen Child through the ISD Online Registration Portal. Processing timelines for renewals under this scheme are published on the ISD website at: www.irishimmigration.ie/information-on-online-renewal-timelines/.

For all other applicants, the time taken to process an application for immigration permission as the Parent of an Irish Citizen Child depends on the complexity of the case.

I can advise the Deputy that Irish Citizen Child applications are assessed on an individual basis and processing times may vary. The processing of this type of application can be complex in certain cases and, therefore, my Department does not record the average processing time for Irish Citizen Child applications.

The table below outlines the number of Irish Citizen Child applications on hand for the years requested by the Deputy.
