The NIS2 Directive aims to enhance and strengthen security across sectors that are vital for our economy and society and that rely heavily on ICT, such as energy, transport, water, banking, healthcare and digital infrastructure.
Work is close to finalisation on the drafting of the National Cyber Security Bill, which will transpose the NIS2 Directive and establish Ireland’s National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) on a statutory basis, with a view to its publication in the autumn.
The NCSC is engaging with its constituents and stakeholders to ensure that NIS2 requirements are communicated ahead of time. The NCSC has prepared a media campaign for launch when the Cyber Security Bill comes into force and has produced resources and guidance for organisations within the scope of NIS2.
This includes the rollout of draft Risk Management Measures and the Cyber Fundamentals (CyFun) framework, designed to help organisations comply with NIS2 requirements and most recently, Guidance on Cyber Governance for Management Board Members in NIS2 Entities. This new resource is specifically designed to support Management Board members fulfil their leadership responsibilities and protect the continuity of essential services with confidence.
Together with Enterprise Ireland, the NCSC has launched a cyber review & improve grant scheme which provides 80% funding, up to 60k per grant, to Enterprise SMEs to conduct a review of their current cyber security posture and implement recommended improvements.
In anticipation of the transposition of the Directive, the NCSC has made numerous publicly available NIS2 Directive Resources available on the NCSC website, including a ‘NIS2 Quick Reference Guide’, an FAQ page, and an, 'Am I in Scope?’ tool to allow entities ascertain if they are within the scope of NIS2.
