Wildfires can have catastrophic impacts on upland habitats and rural communities, putting homes, property and lives at risk and diverting emergency services from their main tasks. In recent years, fires have caused considerable damage to land and forests, private and State-owned.

Everybody has a part to play in protecting our rural landscapes, communities, habitats and forest resources from the threats posed by wildfire.

My Department issue Fire Danger Notices during the main wildfire risk season from March to September in response to high risk fire weather conditions. These notices provide forest owners and managers with advance warning of high fire risk weather conditions and advice on appropriate readiness measures for landowners and public authorities to take ahead of any possible fire outbreaks.
