The Department does not have standalone private insurance cover, as such policies are managed centrally. State indemnity (www.stateclaims.ie/state-indemnity/about-state-indemnity) for personal injury and third-party damage claims is operated by the State Claims Agency (www.stateclaims.ie/about-us) through the General Indemnity Scheme. This approach is set out in the Public Financial Procedures.

Standard travel insurance for Department officials is provided under the terms of a centralised Marsh Ireland policy held by the Department of Public Expenditure, Infrastructure, Public Service Reform and Digitalisation. Separately, the Department paid Marsh €525 in 2024 for additional cover relating to travel insurance for officials travelling to Bangladesh for work under the International Refugee Protection Programme (now transferred to the Department of Justice, Home Affairs and Migration).
