292. Deputy Micheál Carrigy asked the Minister for Transport the total number of successful applications approved under the €10 million ICE2EV pilot scrappage scheme which closed on 1 July 2026; if he will provide a breakdown of these approved applications and the corresponding funding allocated on a county-by-county basis, with specific reference to County Longford and County Westmeath; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The ICE2EV Scrappage Scheme was designed and launched as a capped pilot initiative, supported by €17 million in funding from the Climate Action Fund, comprising of €10 million for the scrappage grant and €7 million for the EV purchase grant. In line with other grant programmes, there is usually a rate of grant drop out between application and payment stages. A decision was taken to add a small additional capacity to the grant scheme to allow for this, ensuring available grant funding is utilised to its fullest extent.
A total of 2,060 applications were received and provisionally approved under the scheme, comprising 720 urban city applications and 1,340 rural applications. Four urban applications were subsequently cancelled due to incorrect information supplied at the time of application. The CSO Census 2022 boundary definitions of “urban city” areas were used to determine whether an applicant was classified as rural or urban.
Final grant approval remains subject to verification of eligibility against the scheme criteria and the submission of the required supporting documentation. Dealers have a period of four months to complete the vehicle sale and draw down the grant. As this process is ongoing, the final number of applications that will ultimately qualify for payment under the scheme is not yet available.
Consequently, a county-by-county breakdown of successful applications and associated funding, including for counties Longford and Westmeath, is not currently available.
