Disease Management

Summary

The Minister said practice nurse numbers are unavailable as GPs employ them privately, while the HSE will provide annual Chronic Disease Management contracting figures.

3495. Deputy Cormac Devlin asked the Minister for Health the number of general practices contracted to deliver the Structured Chronic Disease Management Programme in each year from 2020 to date, in tabular form; the number of practice nurses employed in general practice over the same period; and if she will make a statement on the matter. GPs are private practitioners and as such, privately employ practice staff as suitable to the particular needs of their practice. As practice nurses are direct employees of the GP and are not contracted by the HSE, it is not possible to provide a definitive number of nurses employed in general practice.

I have asked the HSE to reply to the Deputy directly in relation to the number of GPs contracted to deliver the Chronic Disease Management programme in each year from 2020 to date.
