The Common Conditions Service (CCS) allows community pharmacists to provide advice, treatment and prescription access to the public for eight specified common conditions, without the need for a visit to the GP. There has been widespread uptake of the Common Conditions Service by pharmacies across the country, with over 95% having opted-in to participate prior to the launch of the service in January 2026. Of these pharmacies, 70 were in Co. Tipperary, out of a total of 72 pharmacy contractors operating in the county at the time.
The Pharmacy Finder service on the HSE website allows the public to access information on which pharmacies are offering the CCS, and to locate their nearest available service provider.
To deliver the CCS, a pharmacist must complete two separate online training courses through the Irish Institute of Pharmacy (IIOP) website. As of 11th August 2026, 4291 pharmacists have been awarded a certificate for the “Common Conditions – Core Module,” and 4062 have been awarded a certificate for the “Common Conditions – Condition Specific Modules.”
The Common Conditions Service is an excellent example of a service which delivers the right care, in the right place, at the right time as part of the Sláintecare strategy 2025+.
