I am committed to the expansion of dementia diagnostic and community-based services in line with the Programme for Government commitments on dementia.
Dementia cafés are an important post-diagnostic support for people with dementia and their families in the community. They provide opportunities for people to meet on a monthly basis in an inclusive, supportive environment, while also providing information on dementia-relevant topics. The HSE supports the provision of memory cafés in many locations across the country and also supports the Irish Dementia Café Network operated by Engaging Dementia.
The Department of Health has not received a pre-budget submission regarding dementia café provision. All evidence-based, costed pre-budget submissions received will be considered as part of the wider budgetary and policy context of the 2027 estimates process.
