National Treatment Purchase Fund

Summary

The Minister clarified that the HSE, not the NTPF, administers the Cross Border Healthcare Directive Scheme.

3732. Deputy Paul Lawless asked the Minister for Health if she will review the decision of the National Treatment Purchase Fund (NTPF) to refuse financial support for a patient (details supplied) seeking approval for planned healthcare treatment in another EU jurisdiction under the Cross Border Healthcare Directive; the reasons the application was refused; whether consideration was given to the urgency of the patient's clinical circumstances and scheduled treatment date; whether an appeal or exceptional review mechanism is available in such cases; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The National Treatment Purchase Fund (NTPF) has no involvement in the Cross Border Healthcare Directive Scheme. The Scheme is administered by the Health Service Executive (HSE) and detailed information is available at www2.hse.ie/services/schemes-allowances/cross-border-directive/how-to-get/.
