I propose to take Questions Nos. 343 and 394 together.
In the period 2016 to 2025, a new Coast Guard Station at Bonmahon, Co. Waterford, was completed in 2023. Construction work commenced on the new station in Westport, Co. Mayo in 2024 and the building opened in March 2026. In November 2025, construction commenced on a new station in Greystones. This work is progressing well and is expected to be completed on time in early 2027.
As the Deputy is aware, the Irish Coast Guard Building Strategy was published in November 2025 and provides the framework for the continued development and modernisation of the Coast Guard’s station network. The programme of works currently being progressed by my Department, in conjunction with the Office of Public Works (OPW), is being undertaken in line with the priorities and objectives set out in that Strategy. In addition to the delivery of new Coast Guard station buildings, significant capital investment has also been directed towards extensions, improvements, and substantial upgrades across a number of other Coast Guard stations nationwide. This work has included the modernisation of welfare facilities, ensuring that volunteers and staff have access to safe, fit for purpose facilities in support of their operational duties. These enhancements represent a considerable and ongoing commitment to improving the standard of infrastructure available to Coast Guard units across the country, complementing the investment in new build projects and reflecting a broader strategy of continuous improvement to frontline building infrastructure.
The information requested by the Deputy in relation to expenditure on Irish Coast Guard (IRCG) stations for the period 2016 to 2025, inclusive, including expenditure on design and planning works and overall capital expenditure, is set out in the Table below.
Table 1
Total capital expenditure to end July 2026, amounted to €6.6 million.
