Ambulance Service

Summary

The Minister referred concerns about daytime-only paramedic rosters, staff income and Labour Court protections to the HSE for a direct response.

3925. Deputy Cathal Crowe asked the Minister for Health if she will address the decision by the National Ambulance Service to restrict newly qualified community paramedics in Clare and other regions to daytime-only hours; the rationale for this given the service’s proven 68% hospital avoidance rate; if she will address the severe financial impact this causes staff through the loss of shift premiums; the way in which Labour Court Recommendation LCR23254 is being applied to protect their terms; and if she will intervene to support rosters that meet community need and protect staff income. As this is a service matter I have asked the Health Service Executive (HSE) to respond to the Deputy directly, as soon as possible.
