Health Services Staff

Summary

The Minister referred the request for specialist Huntington’s disease clinics, staffing comparisons and a definitive timeline to the HSE for response.

3990. Deputy Fionntán Ó Súilleabháin asked the Minister for Health if she is aware that Ireland has only one dedicated specialist HD nurse for the entire national population (details supplied); if she will contrast this lack of resources with the multi-disciplinary clinic networks available to the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) community in Ireland and HD families in Scotland; and if she will provide an immediate, definitive timeline for the establishment of specialist multidisciplinary clinics to ensure Irish HD patients have equal access to clinical trials and co-ordinated lifetime care. As this is a service matter, I have asked the Health Service Executive to respond to the Deputy directly, as soon as possible.
