Summary

HIQA, the independent regulator of nursing homes, requested more time to provide information on procedures, complaints about falls and care, and resulting actions.

Deputy Paul Lawless asked the Minister for Health the procedures that apply when nursing home residents suffer falls or other serious incidents requiring medical assessment; the number of complaints received by HIQA relating to alleged failures in nursing home care, treatment following falls, and resident welfare over the past three years; and the actions taken in response to such complaints. The Chief Inspector of Social Services, in the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA), is the national independent regulator of all designated centres for older people in Ireland, including public community nursing units and private nursing homes.

Department of Health officials directed this query to HIQA who have requested more time to deal with this request.

As soon as the information is to hand it will be supplied to the Deputy.
