Kerry ETB are currently progressing their proposal for a purpose-built FET college in Killarney under my department’s FET College Major Capital Programme. KETB’s proposal aims to transform FET provision in Killarney through the development of a modern, contemporary campus with a strong focus on hospitality skills development.
I can confirm that I provided approval late last year to KETB to agree a price with the Local Authority for the Pretty Polly site and for them to proceed with relevant legal and site due diligence requirements. This work remains ongoing. It is anticipated that this acquisition will be completed by year end subject to the relevant due diligence requirements being met.
In parallel to this work, KETB is also working on their Preliminary Business Case proposal for the infrastructure they wish to deliver on the site. Once KETB have completed this business case, it will be submitted to SOLAS for evaluation.
Along with SOLAS, my department will continue to support KETB in progressing this major capital project which will deliver key FET infrastructure to meet the needs of learners in Killarney and surrounding areas.
