Darragh O'Brien Minister for Transport Fianna Fáil

As Minister for Transport, I have responsibility for policy and overall funding in relation to public transport. The National Transport Authority, or NTA, has responsibility for planning and developing Park and Ride sites, and is leading the development and rollout of strategic park and ride sites nation-wide through the Park and Ride Development Office (PRDO).

The Programme for Government commits to working with local authorities and relevant agencies to develop affordable Park and Ride facilities on the outskirts of major towns and cities.

Noting the NTA's responsibility in the matter, I have referred the Deputy's question to the NTA for a direct reply. Please contact my private office if you do not receive a reply within 10 working days

Pending this more detailed response, I am informed that the NTA is progressing a programme of Park & Ride investment for Galway as part of its wider strategy to support sustainable travel, reduce congestion, and improve access to the city. This programme provides for a network of strategic Park & Ride sites on the main approaches to Galway, aimed at enabling commuters to transfer from private car to high?capacity public transport services. In total, the Galway Park & Ride Strategy identifies a number of sites delivering over 1,100 spaces, including key locations on the N6 and N83 corridors, which are currently being advanced in partnership with local authorities.
