Expenditure on transport investment is not reported on an individual project basis, but rather on a programme basis, as outlined in the Revised Estimates and Appropriation Account. Annually, planned Investment is set out in high-level expenditure programmes, Aviation, Maritime, Roads, Public Transport, Active Travel and Corporate/ICT.
The planned expenditure issued via grant allocations to entities which sponsor and approve projects, such as the NTA and TII, as well as through local authorities and other delivery bodies such as ZEVI.
Major transport projects, usually considered as projects which exceed €200m planned investment, are reported and best reviewed through the official Project 2040 tracker, MyProjectIreland, which includes information on projects within the National Development Plan and can provide data by region, investment type and status. My Department provides regular updates to the Project 2040 programme office to ensure accurate information is available on transport projects.
Where smaller project allocations are concerned, typically Active Travel and National Road Maintenance allocations, TII and the NTA publish the details of annual allocations in booklets, available at www.tii.ie and www.nta.ie respectively. Regional and Local Road Maintenance allocations can be obtained in the Regional and Local Roads Allocations Booklet, available in the Oireachtas Digital Library.
It should also be noted that over the time period requested, it is possible that some smaller projects will meet the total threshold of €1m but will have lower expenditure on an annual basis. Additionally, part-funded projects can include other funding such as through the Climate Action Fund or the European Regional Development Fund.
Finally, to note that some programmes are addressed and monitored on a national or regional basis rather than on a per-county basis.
Given the scale and complexity of funding (almost 1,000 active travel projects alone were funded in 2026) it is not practical to report on the allocations in the format sought, within the boundaries and deadlines of a Parliamentary Question.
