705. Simon Harris Tánaiste and Minister for Finance Fine Gael

I am advised by Revenue that the total amount of corporation tax paid by the banking sector in each of the years 2019 to 2024 inclusive is presented in the following table. I am informed by Revenue that 2024 is the latest year for which fully analysed tax return data is available.

The "banking sector" in this reply refers to banks identified by Revenue’s administrative records for 2024, and the following table presents the tax liability of those banks, as recorded on their tax returns, between 2019 and 2024 inclusive. The Deputy may wish to note that the relevant NACE code 6419 “Other monetary intermediation”, which could also be used to identify banks, may lack precision at the four-digit subclass level and as such was not used to compile this response. NACE is a standardised classification providing the framework for collecting and presenting statistical data according to economic activity. NACE codes are self-reported by taxpayers during the initial tax registration with Revenue.

I am further advised by Revenue that in 2024 the aggregate amount of unused trading losses carried forward by the banking sector was €75,446.4 million.
