In December 2025, the Department of Justice, Home Affairs and Migration published its Sectoral Investment Plan. It includes a proposal for a new Garda Station for Carndonagh, Co. Donegal, as one part of a Construction and Estate Refurbishment Programme for An Garda Síochána.
Consistent with the requirements of the Infrastructure Guidelines, the Department of Justice, Home Affairs and Migration is the Approving Authority, An Garda Síochána is the Sponsoring Agency and the Office of Public is the Contracting Authority for the delivery of capital projects for An Garda Síochána.
Regarding the proposed new Garda Station at Cardonagh, an initial Brief of Requirements has been issued by An Garda Síochána to the Office of Public Works. The Office of Public Works has since carried out a market trawl to identify potential sites for the project. The Office of Public Works will shortly meet with An Garda Síochána to review the outcome of this process, and to agree further engagement between the Office of Public Works, An Garda Síochána and the Department of Justice, Home Affairs and Migration to progress matters.
