The project to which the Deputy refers has been devolved to the National Development Finance Agency (NDFA) for delivery as part of a programme of school building projects (Project Dargle).

The brief allows for an extension and refurbishment of the existing Moate Community School to cater for a long-term projected enrolment of 1000 pupils and includes 4 Special education classrooms.

The project is currently at Stage 2b of the architectural design process (pre-tender stage). A full grant of planning permission has been received for the project.

The Department recognises the importance of addressing any urgent health and safety issues within school infrastructure and is committed to working with schools to ensure that such issues are addressed as a priority.

In this instance, the school has submitted applications under the departments Emergency Works scheme in relation to urgent issues affecting the existing school infrastructure. These applications are currently being reviewed by the Department. Members of the Department's emergency works team are also scheduled to visit the school next week to engage directly with the school, further assess the issues identified and progress the emergency works applications as appropriate.

The Department will continue to work closely with the school to address any urgent health and safety requirements while also considering the progression of the major capital project through the appropriate stages of the architectural design process.
