Bus Services

Summary

The Minister referred questions on the proposed Knock Airport bus service’s routes, connections and flight coordination to the NTA, which oversees rural public transport operations.

214. Deputy Naoise Ó Muirí asked the Minister for Transport whether the proposed new Knock Airport bus service would supplement, will replace or extend existing routes 440, 442 or MY42; the way in which it would connect with route 22 at Charlestown; if its timetable will be coordinated with flights at Ireland West Airport; and if the NTA or Department officials have engaged with Ireland West Airport to ensure the timetable is of greatest benefit to passengers. Jerry Buttimer Minister of State at the Department of Transport Fine Gael

As Minister of State at the Department of Transport with special responsibility for Rural Transport, I have responsibility for policy and overall funding in relation to rural public transport service provision; however, I am not involved in the day-to-day operations.

The National Transport Authority (NTA) has statutory responsibility for securing and monitoring the provision of public passenger transport services nationally, including the Connecting Ireland Rural Mobility Plan and TFI Local Link services. In light of the NTA responsibilities I have referred your question to the NTA for direct reply to you. Please advise my private office if you do not receive a reply within ten working days.
