I propose to take Questions Nos. 258, 259 and 260 together.
The data sought by the Deputy on the number of flights passing over Lacken is not collated by the Irish Aviation Authority (IAA), AirNav Ireland or my Department.
The IAA, as the State’s civil aviation regulator, is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of civil aviation in Ireland, and monitoring of day-to-day aircraft movements within specific areas is not part of the IAA’s role.
As the State’s air navigation services provider, AirNav Ireland is responsible for the provision of air navigation services in Irish-controlled airspace.
I am advised that AirNav Ireland is not aware of any changes to the flight paths of aircraft under its responsibility within the vicinity of Lacken, namely commercial aircraft operating under Instrument Flight Rules to and from Ireland West Airport outside a 10-nautical-mile radius of the airport.
The Lacken area, at altitudes below 7,500 feet, is located within Class G (‘uncontrolled’) airspace. As a result, AirNav Ireland does not provide air traffic control services to, nor does it have responsibility for, aircraft operating at low altitude in this area.
In general, complaints about noise from overflying aircraft should be directed to the relevant local authority, which in the case of Lacken is Mayo County Council.
