Rail Network
The Minister referred questions on train control system reliability, maintenance costs and capacity for planned service increases to the National Transport Authority.
315. Deputy Grace Boland asked the Minister for Transport the current assessment of the reliability and remaining operational life of the existing train control systems; the expenditure incurred and forecast to maintain and support those systems pending delivery of a replacement traffic management system, by year; and whether the existing systems can accommodate planned increases in rail services and capacity pending delivery of the replacement system. Under the Dublin Transport Authority Act 2008, the National Transport Authority (NTA) has statutory responsibility for the planning and development of public transport infrastructure in the Greater Dublin Area (GDA), including the National Train Control Centre, or NTCC. The NTA also manages the wider portfolio of public transport investment nationally.
Noting the NTA's responsibility in this matter, I have referred the Deputy's questions to the NTA for a direct, detailed reply. Please contact my private office if you do not receive a reply within 10 days.
