Seán Canney Minister of State at the Department of Transport Independent

The Government approved a draft revision of the National Ports Policy 2013 on Tuesday, 16 June 2026. The Department of Transport has conducted a public consultation on the draft policy, along with the associated environmental reports. The deadline for submissions under the public consultation was 28 August 2026, and 91 written submissions were received in that period.

I welcome this high level of stakeholder engagement in this public consultation process. All submissions are being carefully assessed by officials in my Department. It is my intention that a final draft of the policy will be submitted to Government for approval before the end of the year.
