Simon Harris Tánaiste and Minister for Finance Fine Gael

I am advised by Revenue that a wide range of statistical information pertaining to excise licenses is published annually on the Revenue website. The link below provides detailed information on the breakdown of licenses by licence type:

www.revenue.ie/en/corporate/information-about-revenue/statistics/excise/licences/excise-licences.aspx

The information available on the website is from 2003 – 2025, data from 2000 is unavailable due to system changes prior to 2003.

The information relating to publican’s licences is included in the statistics provided in the link above (Total Publicans). However, it should be noted that the figures for “Total Publicans” also includes data for other licence types such as;

- Aerodrome Licence

- National Cultural Institutions Licence

- National Sporting Arena Licence

- Publican's Licence (ordinary) - Holiday Camp

- Publican's Licence (ordinary) - Theatre

- Publican's Licence (Ordinary) Greyhound Racetrack

- Publican's Licence (ordinary) Horse Racecourse

- Publican's Ordinary Railway Refreshment Rooms Licence.

Published figures, which were based on calendar year, are currently available for the period 2003 to 2024. Figures for 2025 will be published in due course.

As the Annual Licensing Court sits predominately in September to review, refuse or issue a court certificate that will allow the applicant to apply to Revenue, the comparable data for 2026 is not currently available.
