The School Transport Scheme is a significant operation managed by Bus Éireann on behalf of the Department of Education and Youth.
The scheme is made up of three separate schemes, the school transport scheme for primary, post primary and for children with special educational needs.
The purpose of my Department's School Transport Scheme is, having regard to available resources, to support the transport to and from school of children who reside remote from their nearest school.
Bus Éireann have advised that the pupil referred to is eligible for transport to their school of attendance and that a ticket has issued for the 2026/27 school year.
Bus Éireann further advise that given the increase in the school transport workload at this time of the year, regrettably, it was not feasible to undertake an assessment of the route, and this is scheduled to take place in the coming weeks.
School Transport Section of my Department will continue to engage with Bus Éireann and will reply directly to the Deputy with this information.
