764. Deputy Joe Neville asked the Minister for Social Protection if his Department will confirm the pension (non contributory) amount and not the pension (contributory) amount a person will receive if the person reaches 66 years-of-age on 1 January 2036 with no stamps, having not worked; and if he will make a statement on the matter. State pension non contributory is a means tested scheme. Items which count as means include cash income, including foreign pensions, the value of any property (excluding a person’s own home) and the value of any savings and investments which a person or their spouse, civil partner or cohabitant may have. In order to qualify for the state pension non contributory a person must be habitually resident in the State.
The rate of payment that may be payable in 2036 cannot be confirmed at this time. Entitlement and payment rates will be assessed based on the legislation, qualifying conditions, and rates applicable in 2036.
Currently, if a person satisfies the qualifying criteria for state pension non-contributory, the rate of payment ranges from €3.00 per week up to the maximum rate of €288.00 per week.
