Jim O'Callaghan Minister for Justice, Home Affairs and Migration Fianna Fáil

The Garda Commissioner is responsible for the management and administration of An Garda Síochána under Section 33 of the Policing, Security and Community Safety Act 2024, which includes the distribution and stationing of Garda personnel throughout the State. The Commissioner is independent in his functions under Section 34 of the Act. As Minister, I have no role in internal Garda HR processes, including the transfer of Garda members.

I have been advised by the Garda authorities that the below table outlines the number of approved transfers in each of the years 2022 to date in 2026. These transfers were approved in conjunction with the allocation of probationer Garda intakes over the course of the years concerned.
