Of the €125 million allocated for EU Presidency policing and security, An Garda Síochána had spent €24.198 million by 31 August 2026.

Deputy Ken O'Flynn asked the Minister for Justice, Home Affairs and Migration further to Parliamentary Question No. 59656/26 of 7 September 2026, the amount of the €125 million allocation to An Garda Síochána for EU Presidency policing and security that has been drawn down or expended to date; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The Garda Commissioner is responsible for the operational response to the policing and security of the State including the policing and security arrangements for Irelands Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

I secured €125 million in the Revised Estimates for 2026 for An Garda Síochána to cover the additional policing and security costs that are expected to arise. As of 31 August 2026, €24.198m has been spent by An Garda Síochána from the allocated EU Presidency budget.

The Garda Commissioner is responsible for the management and administration of An Garda Síochána under Section 33 of the Policing, Security and Community Safety Act 2024 and as the Accounting Officer for An Garda Síochána under Section 72 of the Act is responsible for the Garda budget.
