Student Visas
The visa was refused after seven months; applicants must keep documents current, and may reapply with additional information addressing the refusal reasons.
949. Deputy Seán Ó Fearghaíl asked the Minister for Justice, Home Affairs and Migration if he is aware of the case of a person (details supplied) whose family visit visa application was submitted on 27 November 2025 and remained under consideration for approximately seven months before being refused; if he is concerned that the refusal cited issues including expired travel dates, an outdated itinerary and documentation that had become out of date during the processing period; and if consideration will be given to reviewing the case. I can advise the Deputy that following full consideration by a Visa Officer, the visa application referred to was refused. The reasons for this decision were set out in the refusal letter sent to the applicant on 7 July 2026.
All visa applicants are advised that the onus is on them to provide as much information in support of their application as they feel is necessary. Guidelines in this regard are posted on our website. Applicants that meticulously follow these guidelines have an improved prospect of receiving a positive decision. Applicants are advised to make sure that the supporting documentation is as up to date as possible. Applicants may use my Department's Customer Service Portal to upload updated documents, such as a revised travel itinerary, after the initial application has been submitted.
The Customer Service Portal can be accessed at the following link:

It should also be noted that should any person, who has been refused a visa, wishes to make another application at a future point, their application will be assessed on its own merits taking all relevant information into consideration at that time. Their prior immigration history is a matter of record but does not preclude them from seeking a visa in the future.
If the applicant decides to make a new visa application, they should consider the reasons for refusal listed in the refusal letter. Their application should include any further information or additional documentation they wish to have considered.
As an Oireachtas member, the Deputy can also request the status of individual immigration cases by e-mail, using the Oireachtas Mail facility at: IMoireachtasmail@justice.ie, which has been specifically established for this purpose. This service enables up to date information on such cases to be obtained without the need to seek information by way of the Parliamentary Question process.
