The Basic Income Support for Sustainability (BISS) is designed to provide a direct income support to Irish farmers to underpin their continued sustainability and viability. Support is based on the size of a holding (the number of eligible hectares) and the number and value of entitlements held.
The Complimentary Redistributive Income Support for Sustainability (CRISS) is designed to ensure redistribution of direct payments from larger holdings to medium and smaller sized holdings.
The aim of the Eco-Scheme is to reward farmers, from all farming sectors and from different levels of intensity, for undertaking actions that are beneficial to the climate, environment, water quality and biodiversity.
The number of eligible farmers who applied for the (BISS) and held entitlements in counties Galway, Roscommon, Mayo, Sligo, Leitrim and Donegal are set out below, along with the average hectares paid along with the average payment per hectare under BISS and the average payment per hectare for BISS, CRISS and ECO in 2025.
