Hospital Services

Summary

The Minister referred questions about the planned closure and deregistration of Unit 1 at St. Stephen’s Hospital to the HSE for response.

1370. Deputy Ken O'Flynn asked the Minister for Health further to public assurances given by the HSE in December 2024, and in July 2025, that unit 1 at St. Stephen's Hospital, Sarsfield's Court, Glanmire, would remain open and continue to admit residents, the specific reasons the position has now reversed with the announced deregistration and phased closure of the unit; the date on which the decision to close was taken; and the person or body within the HSE who authorised that decision.
