I am pleased to confirm to the Deputy that a provisional offer issued to the school for the delivery of additional accommodation under my department’s Additional School Accommodation (ASA) Scheme. The offer consists of two modular special education classrooms and the repurposing of existing space to provide an additional mainstream classroom and resource space. This approach is intended to address the school’s current accommodation and health and safety needs.
A total capital allocation of €7.55 billion has been confirmed for the Department of Education and Youth for the period 2026–2030 under the National Development Plan. This will include a strong focus on provision for children with special educational needs, particularly in meeting annual demand for school places.
The Department will continue to advance school building projects on a prioritised basis, focusing on the most pressing capacity and modernisation requirements. A Department-led prioritisation process will remain in place throughout 2026 and 2027 to assess the progression of projects through the design and delivery pipeline. This process will involve ongoing engagement with key stakeholders, including school patrons and individual schools.
The Department will also continue to engage with patrons to determine the most effective means of meeting both the immediate and long-term accommodation needs of school communities, ensuring that schools are well positioned to accommodate future enrolment demand.
I am pleased to confirm that the offer of accommodation was accepted by the school authority and project managers were appointed to carry out a viability report on the proposed brief of accommodation. The viability report is currently being reviewed by department officials. As soon as this process concludes the school will be contacted in relation to next steps.
